The continuing dry conditions and frost have perennial pastures in significant decline. Combined with the strong demand for hay, cattlemen are having to aggressively secure winter forage for their herds. Adding to the severeness of the situation, dry conditions are preventing timely planting of small grain pastures.
On the positive side, soybean and cotton harvest is proceeding at a rapid pace. Harvesters are easily accessing fields with no issues of equipment being stuck in boggy ground. Some shatter issues have surfaced with soybeans.
Peanut harvest should be complete within the next 10 days.
